Our school is situated in spacious grounds in the centre of Poynton, a popular residential area to the south of Manchester
We currently have seven single age classes. |

Our teachers have a wide range of skills and expertise and we are able to choose between the numerous clubs they run at lunchtime and after school.
We are proud of our campus with its new buildings and playground. People who have not visited the school, and those who have not seen it for sometime all remark how great it looks, inside and out.

The Proposed Amalgamation of Vernon Junior and Infant Schools
The Headteachers and Governors of Vernon Infant and Junior Schools, along with County Council through the TLC initiative, welcome the proposal to amalgamate both schools.
Having worked closely together for many years we see this as a natural, progressive development and fully endorse the proposals. We will work closely with the Authority in beginning the process in developing to the full the facilities available on the total site for the benefit of children both now and in the future. We see this as building on the excellent reputation of both schools, which will provide both social and financial continuity well into the future and for the benefit of the community as a whole.
There has been an enthusiastic response from the staff at both schools.
'The amalgamation of both schools is an exciting proposal which has the support of both schools and offers the opportunity to provide not only continuity of provision into the future but to develop our resources and facilities more effectively. An amalgamation would re-establish the Vernon Primary School which existed until the rapid expansion of population in Poynton during the 1960’s. Merging our two successful schools would enable us to create a new vibrant school fit for the future built upon the firm foundations of the past.' - Mr Broadhurst.
Governors are sure parents and the community will agree with them when they have considered the full details of the proposed amalgamation. These details will be revealed in a Public Consultation which forms an essential part of the process which will begin during the summer/autumn of 2007.

Special Needs
Pupils with learning difficulties are given extra support within the class or in small groups or one-to-one away from the class. Class teachers expect that on average six of their pupils will have learning difficulties and will differentiate the work set to suit the needs of these children. Pupils across several classes may share a common weakness. It is sensible to group these pupils and teach them away from the class. We employ two special needs teaching assistants to provide this service. Often these lessons will take place in a specially resourced room or the school library.
Pupils who require on-going additional support will have an Individual Education Programme. This details the action that the school is taking to provide for his/her needs and the support being given by the home and external agencies. This plan is reviewed each half term. Usually parents meet regularly with teachers to discuss progress.
The school can call upon the LEA support service for advice. Parents are always consulted before this is done. The person who monitors the progress of all pupils with special needs is the Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO). This is presently Mrs. Facer.
The school has a good reputation for successfully integrating children with a range emotional, physical and learning difficulties. The majority of the building is accessible by wheelchair and we have disabled toilet facilities. We plan to make our school fully inclusive and have an access plan, which we are presently implementing.
Extra Curricular Activities
Teachers provide clubs for pupils at lunchtimes and after-school. These vary from term to term. Present clubs:

When a club or an inter-school match takes place after school you will be informed in advance. No child will be allowed to stay for an after school club without their parents knowing. We do not allow pupils to use the school telephone to ring home to ask if they can stay for a club.
If a club is cancelled your child should have been informed at the beginning of the week. If it has to be cancelled on the day we will either let you know or keep your child in the school library until the time at which the club would have finished.
Sport
Our physical education programme provides the opportunity for each child to :
· establish an awareness of the importance of a healthy lifestyle
· develop confidence in a range of physical activities
· work effectively with others
· develop an understanding of and skill in, team games and respond appropriately to competition
· experience outdoor sports and activities
The school recently achieved a Sports Council Activemark Gold Award in recognition of its commitment to sport both during and after school hours.
