Head teacher's Message
On behalf of everyone who works in Carlton and Faceby C.E. School I would like to extend a warm welcome to you.
Carlton and Faceby school is located within the beautiful North Yorkshire Moors within the village of Carlton.
It is a small, forward thinking, village school which prides itself on its ability to address the needs of all of the pupils within its care.
Parents from the village and numerous wider local communities choose to send their children to our well-respected school which is known for its high standards and the exemplary behaviour of its pupils.
We strive to provide a happy, secure and welcoming school in which children can develop their learning and be safe.
The staff and I value the contribution of every child whilst actively pursuing excellence within an environment of mutual respect. We are proud of the fact that our school is an integral part of the community that we serve.

Carlton and Faceby Church of England School
At Carlton and Faceby School our children are in the last year of the Foundation Stage. At our school children are admitted to school in the Autumn Term after their fourth birthday. This means that children may be just 4 or almost 5. They will have a whole year in Foundation/Reception before becoming Year 1. Children are accepted into a small, established group of Key Stage 1 children with its own routines and work patterns. We believe that this provides a secure base for each Reception child.
The needs of these very young children are incorporated into the whole Key Stage planning by considering and including the six areas of learning for the Foundation Stage. These are:
1. Personal, social and emotional development
2. Communication, language and literacy
3. Mathematical development
4. Knowledge of understanding of the world 5. Physical development
6.Creative development
We aim to promote positive attitudes and personal, social and emotional well-being as children gain social skills, attention skills and communication skills as well as all learning. Parents are our partners in education.
Confederation
There are five highly experienced teachers one of whom is a music specialist.
In addition to the teachers the Head teacher, the teaching assistant and the secretary work at both schools.
You may ask what are the benefits of confederation?
o Opportunities for children to relate to both small and large groups of friends o Opportunities to share the expertise of a larger group of highly experienced teachers o Shared learning experiences o Cross community experiences equipping children with those all-important life-skills o Numerous after school clubs between both schools o Staff have opportunities for leadership at all levels o An opportunity for Governors to address their strategic role within strong partnerships. o Community commitment to securing education within their communities Opportunities for sharing of resources enables the budget to 'go a great deal further.' Both small schools are incredibly well equipped with extensive fiction and reference libraries, ICT offers computers that are available every day on a 3:1 ratio The opportunity to pioneer a very positive way of learning
