Healthy School Happy School
Whinstone School really is a healthy place to be. We are part of Stockton’s “Healthy Schools” programme and are well on our way to becoming disgustingly fit.
Most of us remember to bring our water bottles to school every day and those who forget can always use one of the water fountains.
Some of us, including certain teachers, cycle to school and those who don’t are encouraged to WALK.
We have a fruity KS2 tuck shop which is run by the infamous Year 5 guys and gals. They are a wicked lot and refuse credit to those staff and pupils with poor credit ratings. Fruit costs 20p per item. Many people pay weekly and avoid the hassle of having to remember to bring cash every day. KS1 get their yummy fruit free every day of course, the lucky lot.
Our extended dining hall has a new salad bar, prepared by creative cooks. Remember 5 a day keeps the doctor away!
Freddy Fit sessions keep us, including Mrs Hogg who does them all, super fit.
We now have two massive yards to run about on during play times. This means we can all play out at the same time, even during the winter when the field is soggy.
Being healthy doesn’t of course just mean eating healthy foods and getting plenty of exercise. To be truly healthy we also need to be happy!
We do our best to care for each other. We do not tolerate bullies and we are learning to stand up to people who try to bully us or our friends. Remember, a bully can only succeed if you allow him or her to pick on you. If you know someone is being bullied don’t just stand there DO SOMETHING!
Year Six do a great job looking after the younger children and helping them over lunch times, which can be very stressful when you first start school.
Playground Buddies from all year groups do a great job helping at playtimes. There is no need for anyone to feel sad or lonely; a Buddy is always there to listen or to just walk around with. |
