St Mary's Primary School is situated in the hamlet of Glasdrumman, about one mile north of Annalong on the main Kilkeel - Newcastle Road. The school is in a beautiful location with the Irish Sea and the Mourne Mountains as its neighbours. Around 1790 the first school was established in the area.

The present school was opened in 1969 and includes five classrooms, office and a large hall for PE, drama, music and assemblies. The school boasts beautiful grounds, which lend themselves to environmental studies and include a large sports field and a large playground. Each classroom is well resourced and computer workstations have recently been added.

The school has four classes and children are placed in classes according to their age i.e. Reception / P1, P2 / P3, P4 / P5, and P6/ P7.

St Mary's Primary School is a Maintained school for children between the ages of four and eleven.

We are in the Parish of Lower Mourne and we have close links with St Mary's church, which is a short walk away from us.

We also have strong links with Glasdrumman Gaelic Athletic Club, our local football club.

If you wish your child to start school, please try to register your child with us as soon as possible. This enables us to plan ahead. An application form can be obtained from the school.

The ethos of the school can be best summed up with the school's motto:

"SHARING THE CARING"

SCHOOL POLICY

Drug Policy Statement

This policy is intended to ensure all pupils are supported consistently whether on or around school premises and whenever the school is responsible for their welfare. At St Mary’s, we recognise that some drugs can have beneficial effects, but we also regard every drug as representing potential for harm. For this reason, all drugs need appropriate and responsible care and management.

In order to be able to make informed choices, staff and pupils need to understand the nature of drugs they may come into contact with, their social and legal status and their uses and effects. These choices will include decisions about the use of medicines as well as non-medicinal drugs.

It is our aim to help all our pupils to be able to take their place safely in a world where a wide range of drugs exists.

The main emphasis of our work in relation to drugs is the safety of our pupils.

For more details please refer to school Drug Policy which can be located in the office.

School Policies

Copies of the school ‘s  special needs, charging and remission,  anti-bullying, child protection and discipline policies  are on display outside the school office and can be referred to at any time. Copies of policies can be purchased from the office at a nominal cost.  Summaries of Pastoral care policies including child protection, use of internet and school rules are issued  to all families at regular intervals.

Anyone wishing to inspect or obtain copies of documents which a school is required to keep  available for public inspection may be obtained by contacting the office in advance.
