Trefriw School is an (Infants/Juniors) Primary School.  It is a daily, bilingual, co-educational school.

There are around 38 full time pupils and 7 part time pupils at the school and 2 full time teachers are employed, including the Headteacher.  There is also a part time Nursery Assistant employed at the school. 

 Each child is different and special in his/her own way, and in this school we give them every opportunity to reach their full potential.

THE SCHOOL’S AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

THE SCHOOL’S OBJECTIVES

  1. To generate an atmosphere and environment whereby a pupil may grow, develop and mature into a confident individual, is aware of the welfare of others, and be a responsible member of society.

  2. To provide an education that is of the highest possible quality reflecting the needs of the Authority, the Government, the society and the individual.

  3. To enable each pupil to develop so that he becomes fluent in both Welsh and English so that they may play a full role in both the social and cultural life of the bilingual society.

 THE SCHOOL’S AIMS

Environment and Ethos - To establish a happy and industrious environment that is based on a relationship of mutual respect and care, between teachers, teachers and pupils and between pupils that enables pupils to take a positive attitude and to develop self-confidence.

The Child - To help the academic, emotional, social, physical and spiritual development of the children by fostering in him/her the ability to notice and appreciate the world about him/her and the importance of his/her own self within this world.

The Curriculum - To ensure that each child obtains an equal opportunity by arranging a relevant curriculum in accordance with National Curriculum requirements and the Authority’s policies.

Bilingualism - To ensure that the Dyffryn Conwy Area’s Language Policy is effectively       implemented within the context of the National Curriculum.

Procedure - To ensure that cohesion and balance is maintained throughout the school.  To appreciate and utilise various specialities within the school. To generate flexible procedures so as to ensure that pupils benefit from various and broad experiences.

Staff Development - Ensure that an opportunity exists to train all members of staff and in the wake of the latest changes in accordance with the needs and requirements of pupils and the curriculum.

Buildings - Try and make improvements to the buildings and ensure that they meet Health and Safety requirements, promote hygiene both within and outside the school, making it more attractive in appearance to both children and members of staff.

Managerial and Administrative - Ensure that the school is managed efficiently and effectively by implementing policies and planning frameworks so that everyone is            working towards the same shared objectives.

The Community - To appreciate and take advantage of a range of local skills.  To make use of the community to enhance the children’s educational experiences.  Create an awareness and a sense of belonging by involving the children in environmental, social and cultural activities.  Promoting good partnership between parents and the school.

Teaching and Learning - Create an environment which is conducive to learning where it is possible to provide a high standard of education by ensuring that full use is made of resources available.  Provide suitable staffing, training, curriculum, organisation and building.  Ensure that all pupils are developed to their full potential.  Set realistic targets to aim for by concentrating on priorities to improve quality and achievements.
