Welcome to Ysgol Y Gogarth

As you read this web site and see what we offer children and young people, we hope the quality of educational provision and level of resources we provide our pupils will impress you.

We are committed to providing the very highest quality of teaching and learning for the children who attend Ysgol y Gogarth and the care and safety of all our children is paramount in our consideration.

We aim to provide an educational environment that is child centered, flexible and responsive to the complex needs of each pupil. Central to our philosophy is a strong belief that your child should have the help, commitment and expertise that will give them every opportunity to succeed and progress within this educational environment.

We are very proud of the wide range of opportunities that school offers through residential and extra curricular activities to differing community and international projects.

A web site can only give you a snap shot view of the school and you would need to visit, meet the staff team and children in order to experience a real awareness of the warmth, ethos, work, and diversity of opportunity at Ysgol y Gogarth.

The Headmaster

Art

In Ysgol y Gogarth we provide a learning environment that encourages the pupils to investigate, invent, explore and express their ides and feelings.

The pupils have the opportunity to explore and celebrated different cultures, stories, festivals and traditions throughout the world. Through the creative arts.

They have the opportunity to visit sites of artistic and cultural interest and visit a range of places to stimulate artistic ideas. They are encouraged to participate in workshops by practising artists and visit local galleries and visit exhibitions.

The emphasis in the art curriculum is on the quality of the pupils experience rather than the final outcome but all pupils do have the opportunity to develop their artistic skills and work towards

Careers and Vocational Education

The aim and main purpose of the Careers education and guidance programme at Ysgol Y Gogarth is to help our students develop the knowledge and skills that will help them make best use of their capabilities in learning and work throughout life.

AIMS :

The aims of CEG programmes can be defined within three areas. CEG programmes should provide the teaching, learning, information and advice that helps young people :

1. Increase their self-awareness and identify their personal development needs. (Self Development)

2. Become aware of changing career opportunities in the labour market. (Career Exploration)

3. Develop skills in career planning that help them make choices and manage their career development. (Career Management )

We try and give the pupils a broad range of work experience, workplace visits, work-related education, vocational projects and Team Enterprise.

Eco School

Ysgol y gogarth is committed to ‘Total Recycling.’ Our pupils have recently built a specific area where we collect paper, cardboard, aluminium, steel, organic waste, plastic, ink cartridges and old mobile phones. A whole school-recycling ethos is well established with each class collecting and sorting its own waste.

Our next step is to extend our idea of sustainable development into the community with an Eco-Task Force taking on local projects and encouraging local businesses to recycle. We hope that this will make a real contribution to keeping North Wales so beautiful! Our Eco project has strong links with Careers and Vocational education and the Comenius International Project.
