The surrounding countryside has pleasant views over hills and valleys with Dartmoor prominent in the distance. The school occupies a quiet position towards the edge of Boyton village.

The headteacher sees the school as a place of learning for all, whether they are six or sixty years old. All should find Boyton Community Primary, both welcoming and a place of positive personal development where the real joy of learning can be found.

Mission Statement

'At the end we are judged not on how we have loved but how others have loved us'

Boyton Community Primary School aims to promote a balance of traditional and modern concepts that have been proven to be academically and socially beneficial to children's development and well being.

Being a Community Primary we aim to be at the heart of the community, involved with community events, promoting a sense of belonging and ownership of our community. Being a small school enables parents, governors, teachers and pupils to work together as partners in children's education. Staff and pupils are friendly and approachable and all relationships are compassionate and caring, giving a family feeling.

The school is an inspirational, warm, happy and safe learning environment where staff and children are valued, by provision of a relaxed but firm environment and making each child feel part of the school family. The school has a holistic approach to education, encouraging development of the whole child. Children are treated as individuals to promote confidence, self esteem and caring for others; encouraging children to develop and express their own ideas to become happy, confident and courteous.

Success in this is achieved by delivering a broad and balanced curriculum, differentiated to suit the individual child, with a wide range of activities available to broaden horizons and promote a healthy lifestyle.

Aims of the School

Within a safe, caring environment, our school aims to:

  • Build and produce happy confident pupils, making each child feel an integral part of the school family.
  • Offer a holistic approach to education developing the 'whole child'
  • Yield an understanding of spiritual and moral values, which reflects a sense of fairness and justice
  • Treat children as individuals
  • Offer and engender a sense of belonging and ownership of the community and caring for others
  • Teach new and traditional concepts encouraging children to develop and express their own ideas
  • Continue to work together so parents and teachers are partners in children's education
  • Promote a healthy lifestyle through an educated choice
