Welcome to Burraton School!

Thank you for your interest in our school. We are all very proud of it and we hope that what you see, read and hear on this website will give you confidence in the school.

We endeavour to offer opportunities for successful academic, social, cultural, emotional, spiritual, moral and physical development in a well-disciplined yet friendly and caring environment. We welcome all young people here, including those with severe learning difficulties.

I can assure you of the school’s commitment to your child and I hope this website will provide an insight to the philosophy of our school.

We are always happy to let the school speak for itself whenever parents and prospective pupils visit us.

Please use the links on the left to navigate around the prospectus, and for other information about the school.

OUR PHILOSOPHY - The Ethos of the School

The school encourages each child to realise their full potential by the provision of a caring, ordered and happy environment; an environment conducive to spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development regardless of age, gender, faith or exceptional needs. We know that children are all unique and we will ensure that the curriculum is delivered in relevant and interesting ways. This will involve teaching the children how to learn by providing them with strategies to develop their thinking skills. We also believe it is most appropriate for children to be involved in decisions relating to their learning.

The school believes that it has a duty to foster qualities of character such as conscientiousness, independence, self-confidence, honesty and consideration for others.

We endeavour to be consistent at all times, to praise and encourage, and when correction is necessary, to ensure that it is fair and constructive.

THE AIMS OF THE SCHOOL

To provide a happy and caring atmosphere, creating a stimulating teaching and learning environment, where each child can develop knowledge, concepts and skills in all aspects of their school life.

To provide a structured framework through which every child can develop their full potential intellectually, physically, emotionally and socially.

To equip our children with the necessary attitudes and skills relevant to their future in an ever-changing world.

To place great emphasis on developing self respect, self-discipline, making decisions, consideration for others, politeness and conscientiousness in all our children.

To meet fully all aspects of the National Curriculum.

To provide a sensitive programme of health education and sex education in the context of caring human relationships.

To encourage our children to appreciate their role in both the school and the wider community, understanding their own culture and religion as well as respecting the beliefs and cultures of others.

To encourage a respect for the natural and man-made world, develop environmental understanding and foster an appreciation of the importance of relationships between nations.

To provide opportunities to further develop expertise and enjoyment through a wide range of extra-curricular activities.

To achieve these aims, we seek to establish partnerships between children, parents, school and the wider community.
