Welcome from the Chair of Governors

On behalf of the Governors of Christchurch Infant School, I would like to welcome all users of this website, be they parents or prospective parents interested in finding out how we help towards the successful running of our school.

We hope that the pictures and information shown throughout this website will help users see not just how much we value academic achievement, but also how much all of the children are encouraged to achieve their potential and how happy, safe and secure they are in the school environment. The hard work and dedication of all staff make this possible and the Governors take great pride in being part of such a successful team.

I and my fellow Governors are always keen to meet parents of children already in the school or who may be considering enrolling in the future, and we can be contacted using the contact button below.

In the meantime, I hope you enjoy our website and find it an accurate reflection of daily life in a busy, successful and happy school!

The Dorset Education Authority is responsible for admissions to County and Voluntary Controlled Schools and the Admissions Policy of Christchurch Infant School follows the guidance laid down by the Dorset County Council. Further details can be found in the annually reviewed information Booklet for Parents or amongst County guidance material in the school office. The Standard Admission Number for each class at Christchurch Infants is 30 with 120 in each Year Group. Admission to the Speech and Language Base is determined through a panel.

Admission Procedures and Arrangements for Four Year Olds

According to the law, a child is of statutory school age at the start of the school term following his/her fifth birthday. For many years Dorset has admitted children before statutory school age. At Christchurch Infant School we follow the recommended procedures of admitting all the Foundation Year part-time at the beginning of the Autumn Term and enabling them to turn full-time at the beginning of the Spring Term. Parents who wish their child to continue to attend part-time after Xmas are encouraged to discuss this option with the Headteacher. Similarly the school may wish to continue to admit a child part-time if it is in the child’s interest. This is negotiated with the parents. (A deferred entry scheme also exists for a minority of 4 year old children where it is considered that early admission may disadvantage the child ie: with severe SEN. Further guidance on the appropriate criteria is available from the LA.)

Our aim is to provide a happy and secure environment for all those who work in it. To support the promotion of good standards of behaviour the school has a number of School Rules, negotiated with the children, setting out expectations.

Christchurch Infants School has a Whole School Behaviour Policy promoting a positive approach to behaviour management involving staff, children and parents. Clear rules have been established, dealing with all aspects of school life, and a system of rewards and sanctions is used to encourage good behaviour whilst also dealing with unacceptable behaviour.

Individual pupils’ needs and circumstances will always be taken into account when applying the school’s behaviour policy. This refers in particular to matters regarding race, religion and culture; and SEN, disability and circumstances of other vulnerable pupils.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all members of the school community to share in this commitment.

More details of the Behaviour Policy can be obtained from the school office.

This policy is reviewed annually.

This statement was reviewed and adopted by the Staffing and Curriculum committee of governors on the 7th June 2007.
