A Very, Very Brief History

The oldest of our school buildings was opened as the village school on Easter Monday in 1856, although a school had existed in the village for many years before that (probably from the 1730s). What we call "the new building" was opened in July 1966, the same month England won the football World Cup. These days the 1856 building is home to two classes, the new building is home to a further two classes, our school hall, office and computer room. In July 1967 our swimming pool was opened and thanks to the efforts of the PTA is still in good condition. We also have one timber-frame classroom next to the pool.

Sports

20th April 2005

Emma and Emily represented North Dorset in a county-wide athletics competition. They and their team-mates did very well - North Dorset won the overall competition. Here they are in front of our willow house showing off their winners medals.

Our Year 5 team (ably assisted by a few Year Fours) won the competition, beating a spirited Thornford team by 9 tries to 5 in the final. Earlier, we had beaten St Andrew's, Yetminster and Sherborne Primary in our group and then Buckland Newton in the semi-final. There were many excellent performances from our players, but captain Rhodri was outstanding.
