 Dear Parent
The transfer from Primary to Secondary school is an important step in your child’s life. We all wish to have the best for our children and this is particularly true of the education we would like them to have.

Wallace Hall Academy has a long and proud tradition of excellence in education and our present success is based on that tradition and the fact that we have a first class staff of caring professionals dedicated to the needs of your child.

The key to success for any school is close co-operation with the home. At Wallace Hall Academy we try hard to work in partnership with parents - home and school ‘pulling together’ to bring success for every child. Our School Board and Parent and Friends Association try hard to promote this partnership.

Our school aim is to be an effective learning environment; a caring community; a place where people have self-respect; and have respect for others. We trust you will work with us to achieve this aim.

If you have any questions you would like to ask please do not hesitate to contact me. We look forward to working with you and your child.

I would like to thank all those involved for their help with the preparation of this prospectus.

Yours sincerely

A F Douglas
Rector

Transport is provided for all pupils in the school catchment area living more than 3 miles from the school. There is no charge to these pupils. Pupils and parents are informed of the travel arrangements at the beginning of the session. Bus passes are issued during the first few days of the session.

Pupils living less than 3 miles from school may be allowed to travel on contract transport if seats are available. Parents of pupils from outwith the catchment area are responsible for the cost of travel arrangements for their sons/daughters.

Pupil behaviour on school transport is generally very good. The Depute Rector works very closely with the bus companies to ensure that any problems with behaviour are quickly resolved. Our senior pupils help by monitoring the behaviour of younger pupils on buses.

 Curricular Flexibility
New S1 Course
Moving from Primary to Secondary School is a major and exciting step for any youngster. We are always pleasantly surprised at how quickly they settle in at Wallace Hall Academy. They obviously enjoy the challenge of the new subjects and quickly get used to having a variety of teachers. We have well established links with our associate Primary Schools and the 3 day taster course in June gives a glimpse of what is to come.

Classes in S1 are arranged in mixed ability groupings in all subjects except for Mathematics. In Maths, pupils are set into classes according to their ability in the subject.
