Malvern St James is a very popular, all-girls’ Independent School in the heart of rural Worcestershire.
We welcome day girls from five to eighteen, and boarders from seven to eighteen. We offer both full and flexible boarding opportunities.
Malvern St James is 79th in the Financial Times’ “Top 100 Independent Schools in the United Kingdom”, and is described by the Good Schools Guide as “ A lively, creative place to be with impressive academic results”.
Our School is close to an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with easy transport links to London (under three hours by train or road) and Birmingham Airport (45 minutes away).
Our girls have the opportunity to take part in a wide range of activities during the School day and at weekends, and this year we shall complete our new £4.5 million Sports Hall.
Girls leave our School as confident, purposeful and caring young women who are able to take their place in an increasingly global society. 99% of them go on to university.
Do come and visit us. It is only when you walk through our School that you can fully appreciate the excellent education on offer here. The warmth, energy and enthusiasm are tangible and the girls exude a sense of fun and determination to do well.

We look forward to meeting you.

Headmistress, Rosalind Hayes, BA (Hons), MA, PGCE, FRGS

Junior Department

Parents are required to register their daughter in order to be considered for a place.

There are no formal examinations for the entrance into the Junior Department, girls are invited to enjoy a School Taster Day, during which they are assessed within the classroom environment.

Middle School

Girls are invited to take Entrance Examinations at Malvern St James. The examinations take the form of Cognitive Ability Tests (CAT3) and a comprehension examination. CAT3 is the most widely used test of reasoning abilities in the UK. It measures the three principal areas of reasoning - verbal, quantitative and non-verbal.

Each test will last approximately forty-five minutes with breaks in between. The CAT3 assesses an individual’s ability to reason and may be used to predict future educational attainment. It also helps to build understanding of individual potential and learning styles.

Alternatively, girls may apply via the Common Entrance Examination, we are also happy to send entrance papers to schools overseas to administer on our behalf for those girls applying from outside of the UK.

Sixth Form

Girls will study four subjects during their time in the Sixth Form; four to AS Level and continue three to A Level.

As part of the application procedure UK girls are required to take a written paper in one of the subjects the student intends to study at advanced level and a general essay paper.

Girls applying from overseas are required to take a written paper in one of the subjects the student intends to study at advanced level and an English as a Second Language (ESL) paper.
