Neston Primary School is situated in the village of Neston (originally Corshamside), one of the many settlements which grew in Corsham. Corsham is a small town in a large parish, about 8 miles from Bath and 3 miles south west of Chippenham.
The school was originally built in 1861 and was known as Corshamside School. Little has changed the appearance of the front of the school but enlargements were made in 1885 and 1997.

In the 1930's a wonderful garden area and outhouses were built by pupils attending the school; these are still enjoyed today by current pupils and staff.
We are extremely fortunate to have such large and beautiful grounds and we make the most of them by frequently using them for lessons outside and for activities outside school such as FONS fund raising events.
Projects to enhance the grounds have included creating a pond, planting trees and a future plan is to create a "Sensory Garden". As always we include the children as much as possible in the planning and building of all these features.
WHAT DOES A GOVERNOR DO?
The Governing body has statutory responsibilities in connection with many aspects of school life, including the teaching of the national curriculum, the setting of realistic targets for SATs, management of the school budget, and many more.
The governing body also ensures that Freedom of Information requirements for the school are met. Click here to see the School's Freedom of Information Publication Scheme
Each governor has a “link” subject and is responsible for monitoring how this subject is taught in the school. This involves being familiar with the curriculum requirements of the subject and visiting the school occasionally to watch the subject being taught.
Governors are responsible for the implementation, maintenance and adherence to all school policies. Click here to view some of our key school policies
In addition we are often able to contribute where we have specific skills; for example IT experience, accountancy, gardening expertise, knowledge of the law. It is surprising the breadth of knowledge that exists within a governing body and which is useful to schools. |
