Welcome to
Nomansland & Hamptworth C.E. (Aided) Primary School

Our Mission Statement

The Governors and staff of Nomansland and Hamptworth C.E. (Aided) Primary School are committed to providing an education of the highest standard for all pupils who attend the school to enable all of the pupils to develop to their full potential.

We aim to achieve this by:

  • Delivering a broad and balanced curriculum
  • Encouraging excellence through the creation of a welcoming and secure environment, enabling the growth and development of the whole person
  • Providing attitudes of mutual respect and responsibility for all who have any contact with the school
  • Developing spiritual awareness

We are proud of the "Aided" status of our school, which is linked with the parish church of St Peter at Bramshaw, and it is a high priority to promote at all times the link between the school and the parish.

We aim to develop a sympathetic understanding of Christian Values and welcome all children whatever the beliefs of their parents.

The village school was built in 1870 for the children of Nomansland and Hamptworth. It now draws children from a wider area, including Hampshire villages. Parents are attracted by the advantages of a caring rural school which aims for excellence. Nomansland is set in the New Forest, which is a superb environmental resource. The children use the playing fields provided by the Parish Council for their sports activities. The school has Church of England Voluntary status and the salisbury Diocesan Board of Education offers valuable advice and support for pupils staff and governors. The children regularly attend St Peter's Church at Bramshaw and the Rector, a member of the Governing Body, is actively involved in fostering the Christian Values which we have established throughout the school.

The school currently has 70 pupils, 3 full-time teachers and 1 part-time teacher, 4 educational support assistants and other supervisory, cleaning and administrative staff. At present we have 3 classes arranged as follows:

  • Class 3 - Reception & Yr 1
  • Class 2 - Yrs 2 & 3
  • Class 1 - Yrs 4,5 & 6

Following recent improvements the school is able to offer:

  • 3 large Bright Classrooms with disabled access
  • A dedicated Special Needs teaching area
  • A large hall with library and Interactive Whiteboard
  • ICT Suite
  • Cloakrooms and toilets (including disabled facilities)
  • Outside we have a large hard playground, a picnic area , a large wooden play area and our own gardens to help with environmental studies

The school is in an area where children have the option of taking the 11+ entrance examination for the Salisbury grammar Schools - Bishop Wordsworth's for Boys and South Wilts Grammar for Girls. Downton Secondary School is the local secondary school for those pupils to do not attain the grammar schools' requirements and those who opt not to take the test. The children also have the opportunity to attend other local secondary and comprehensive schools, providing there are places available and parents organise their transport.

The school has developed strong links with the community. Parents are always welcomed and local residents are invited to join us for school events. Village groups also use the school as a venues for their activites.

Parents and visitors are encouraged and welcomed into the school to share in the children's learning. We hold regular parents' assemblies, drama productions, music concerts and poetry recitals to develop the children's confidence when performing in front of an audience.
