We believe Batley Grammar School is a unique and special place. Our small size makes individual attention a reality; a warm, friendly atmosphere enhances the air of calm professional purpose in lessons, and we want everyone to make a strong contribution to the school's success, in and
out of the classroom.
We are sure that your child will not only enjoy his or her time at the school but also thrive.
We operate an Open Door policy at Batley Grammar School, and our school is open to visitors at any time: I’m sure you will be impressed. I would be glad to show you the school in action, and extend a warm and personal welcome to you and your family.
Priestley House is not just about work. We’re all like a family.”

Priestley House is the junior school of Batley Grammar School and caters for boys and girls from 3 to 11 years. The majority of pupils continue their education in BGS for which they have automatic entry as pupils of Priestley House. Opened just seven years ago the school has already tripled in size and has over 105 pupils.

The school provides a happy, caring and stimulating environment with the emphasis on hard work, honesty, pride and respect for self and others. Highly experienced and dedicated staff ensure all children are highly motivated and are able to reach their full potential in all areas. Small class sizes with an average of 16 children in each class mean each child receives valuable individual attention.

The school boasts an impressive range of extra-curricular activities, including sports, arts and crafts and music clubs. Free before and after school care is available to all children and the school also receives Nursery Education Funding.

Batley Grammar School was founded in 1612 and is now approaching its quartercentenary. It enjoys a deserved reputation for its academic success and for its record of pastoral care.

Our small size allows us to give focussed attention to pupils, and our warm, friendly atmosphere promotes calm, professional purpose in lessons and in the numerous activities of the school. Our pupils enjoy high standards of learning, self-discipline and personal responsibility.

The staff and the governors of the school are committed to encouraging every pupil to make their own positive contribution to success both in and out of the classroom, and by doing so, to enjoy their time at the school. We believe this is not only reflected in academic achievement, but also in the rounded individuals who leave us equipped for the next stage of their lives.

Sixth Form education at Batley Grammar School is characterised by excellent teaching in small sets, giving each student maximum attention and care. We offer a good range of AS and A Level subjects, and teaching groups in most subjects of less than ten students.

Teaching staff have a wealth of experience at Sixth Form level, and results are very good at all points of the spectrum, with the vast majority of students attaining their first choice university course.

The Sixth Form at Batley Grammar School also gives numerous opportunities for leadership in the many school activities: Combined Cadet Force, Sport, Music, Drama, school clubs and Community Placements. This is an important feature of an 11-18 school, in which older students can give something back to their community.
