Welcome to the Queensbury School website and VLE.

Queensbury School is situated close to the centre of Queensbury Village and has strong links with the community, not least because of a small but active community programme. The school is a happy, thriving and stimulating place to work and study. We set high aspirations and expectations for every student within a balanced learning experience.

We are fortunate to have an excellent team of dedicated and well-qualified specialist teachers and associate staff and the support of a strong Governing Body. We are proud of our reputation as a school which is popular with parents and students alike and for many years more students have wished to come to Queensbury School than there have been places.

We welcome all parents to take an active part in their child's education and encourage them to form a partnership with us to ensure their children achieve success.

Our principle aim is to ensure that every student has the opportunity to be successful and achieve and at the same time ensuring they leave school with the necessary skills and knowledge needed to prepare them for the demands of the 21st century.

We hope our website will provide you with information about the school, its systems, policies and ethos and you will be encouraged to want to find out more about us.

Yours sincerely

Mr A Worthington

Headteacher (Acting)

Admissions

Most children join us in Year 7 although a small number of students join us in later years when places become available.  The children come from a large number of primary schools in the south of Bradford including Shibden Head, Russell Hall, Foxhill, Stocks Lane, Hollingwood, Westwood Park, Wibsey and Cooper Lane.  We maintain close links with these schools and in the next twelve months our staff will visit them to talk with children and their teachers.  The children themselves will visit us in July.

An increasing number of students join us at Post-16 where we have a large and thriving Sixth Form following A level and GNVQ courses, most of whom go on to Higher Education.  A separate Sixth Form prospectus is available from school which gives details of how to apply.

The parents of children who join the school at other times during their school career are invited to contact Mr Walker, the Deputy Headteacher, who has responsibility for admissions.  He will invite you into school where you will be given a guided tour and helped to make the necessary arrangements.

Applications to join Queensbury School should be included on the Preference Form issued to all Year 6 pupils, in Bradford schools, in September.  You may express an equal preference for up to three schools.    The Preference Form must be returned to your child's Primary School by the date shown.  Applications to the school from outside Bradford's Local Authority will be considered, contact should be made with the admissions officer detailed below.

Admission arrangements are overseen by Education Bradford and the school's admissions policy can be found in the 'Guide for Parents about Admission Arrangements' which is issued to Year 6 Primary School  pupils in September prior to admission to secondary school.

If your child is not allocated to the school of your choice, you are entitled to appeal against Education Bradford's decision.  The appeals process is managed by Education Bradford.
