St. John's C.E. Primary School
Offering a Christian-Based Education for Children Aged 3-11
Admissions Policy
St. John’s has an open admissions policy for all children aged between 3 and 11.
There is a high demand for places in both the Nursery and the main school. Priority is given to children from the parishes of Tong/Holme Wood and Bierley.
Our Admissions Policy clearly states the order of priority used to determine which children will be admitted where there are too many applications for the places available.
If you wish to make an application for entry you should begin by putting your child’s name on our Nursery and school waiting list.
For further information, please contact our Office Manager and School Administrator, Mrs Lamin.

What is School Council?
The School Council is a group of people who meet every other week. They try to improve the school and make it a better place. There are four important roles. The important roles are Chairperson, Vice Chair, Secretary and the Treasurer. The Chair prepares the minutes and the agenda with the help with the Secretary. They also run the meeting. The Vice Chair helps the Chair run the meeting. The Secretary makes notes on what has been discussed. The Treasurer takes note of how much money needs to be spent on a new suggestion.
You have to be in Years 3, 4, 5 or 6 to have the privilege of being a member of the School Council. Four people are elected from each base to represent their year group at School Council. The Mrs Gott, Mrs Kaye, Mrs Deo, Head Boy and Head Girl also attend the meetings.
Base Council is usually held once a week and school council members discuss what happened in the meeting with the rest of the class. Then they ask if there are any questions or any suggestions which can be taken to the next School Council Meeting.
How Are School Council Members Elected?
Every year, people put themselves forward to be a School Council Member. Then they have to prepare and present a speech in front of the whole base saying why they think they would be a good representative. A few days later each class votes and the 4 most popular nominees are chosen.
Suggestions
Many suggestions are brought to School Council. One suggestion was for Buddies to wear bands at playtime so other children know who they are. A Buddy is a child who looks after children who are lonely at playtime. We think Buddy Bands are a great idea as it is important that everyone has someone to play with at playtime.
