"Swarcliffe Primary School and Nursery is a good school..a vibrant and inclusive school"   OFSTED May 2005

Our successful OFSTED report followed the completion of a two year building refurbishment programme which has transformed our school into an exciting learning environment. All our classrooms have been fully redesigned with interactive whiteboards, the school has two new halls, an excellent ICT suite, fantastic washroom facilities and a library where children can work calmly and quietly.

OFSTED said about our school..."pupils are very well motivated and enjoy learning because teachers make lessons interesting and fun...The quality and range of the curriculum are good and well extended through extra curricular clubs...Pupils have very positive attitudes towards school and they behave very well...Teachers and other staff provide very good personal support for pupils, it helps them to feel safe and secure.." Our classrooms were described as "lively and rich learning environments... where tasteful displays of pupils' work, books, fabrics and artefacts create a warm stimulating learning environment"

We are proud of our report and feel it reflects the hard work, commitment and dedication of all our staff and pupils.

Shortly after receiving our OFSTED report staff, pupils and parents were delighted to learn we had achieved our highest SATS results ever!

At Swarcliffe Primary School we believe in every child's right to an exciting, challenging and enjoyable education. We believe successful home-school partnerships are essential in developing your child's positive attitude to learning, behaviour and achievement whilst they are at Swarcliffe Primary School and Nursery.  As parents we want the best for our children. We want regular, reliable, accessible information about our child's progress and achievement. When our children experience difficulties we want to work with the school to support in any way we can.  Parents are always welcome in school to work with staff to help their child achieve and succeed.

If you want to find out more about our school continue to browse our website. If you are a parent looking for a new school for your child please do not just read about our achievements come and visit our school!

"Every child has a talent and every child has a dream. Your child must have the chance to achieve the very best in life. The greatest gift we can give them is a good education."

Mrs S A Sanderson

Headteacher

How well are our children doing?

At Swarcliffe Primary School and Nursery we assess how successful our children are doing by measuring their achievement and attainment.

  • Achievement is the progress our children have made over a given time. We track and record progress every half term or term depending on the curriculum area. This progress is recorded on tracking sheets and is monitored by the Headteacher and curriculum subject leaders. For example as Literacy Coordinator Mrs Jones monitors children's progress in writing every half term. If there are any children she notices not making progress or children suddenly jumping to the next level she will discuss this with their class teacher.

  • Attainment is the level the children receive in a standard test or assessment. We can measure this against a National Curriculum level to decide if a child is working at above age, at age or towards age expected levels. We assess the children formally at least twice a year using Literacy, Numeracy and Science SATs (Standards Assessment Tasks) to give them a National Curriculum level. We make sure the children are working at an expected level and to check they are making appropriate progress as they move through the school. We can also use levels of attainment to identify children who may need extra support because they are working above or towards age expected levels.

  • If you read the website information about ISP there is more information about how our raising attainment and accelerating progress programme which focuses on raising the % of our children working at age related expected levels. This has been tremendously successful at our school.
