Our school, like all 2,500 schools across the South West receives its Broadband Internet connection from the South West Grid for Learning (SWGfL). They have developed an array of policies, documents and services, in conjunction with the police, to help reduce the risks associated with the internet. In addition to the existing filtering and security services that we receive the highlight of the enhancements include:
Acceptable Usage Policy
The SWGfL have developed an umbrella Acceptable Usage Policy that outlines the definition of acceptable use of all SWGfL services to encourage the Internet to be used effectively and responsibly. The policy is to be read in conjunction with our existing school Acceptable Usage policy. Of particular note are the following points:
- This affects all users of the Internet in school; staff; pupils; parents and governors etc, not just our pupils
- To enhance the safety of all, the SWGfL will be actively monitoring and auditing the use of the regional network to highlight and report any misuse or attempted misuses of the Internet, for example reporting illegal access.
