Welcome to Galmpton Church of England Primary School!

I warmly welcome you to Galmpton Church of England Primary School via this, our new website. We try to be an approachable and friendly team who with you share in the awesome task of nurturing, sharing, educating and developing that most special and precious group-the children. Please do not hesitate in contacting us if you have any worries or concerns. We will do our best to work with you in the interests of your son or daughter or both! We want you to feel involved in the work of the school and we encourage you to visit us.

Often an appointment may the best way forward as staff are usually preparing for the day ahead at the start of the day. There are special parents' evenings and an extensive written report. The new website will also offer you an insight as to what is happening in your child’s year group. We also have a very good a Parent Teacher Association whose contribution should not just be measured in pounds raised, but in the valuable ‘channel’ between school and home. Details of the PTA are provided on this website.

As a Church of England School we promote Christian values. We feel that we create a special atmosphere that is warm and friendly, yet purposeful and challenging. Our central purpose is to develop the full potential of your child and we recognise the importance of the partnership between school and home in realising this aim. Our intention is that your child enjoys his or her life at the school and achieves well. In fact, in recent years we have won numerous local and national awards as well as featuring in virtually all forms of the media-including television! I look forward to meeting you in person, if we have not already met.

Key Information

The school was founded by Susanna Harvey in 1870. She continued to support it until her death in 1881. Earlier, in 1865, Lord Churston had founded a school at Churston Ferrers and, as a result of an agreement between the two patrons, boys who passed 'Standard One' (children of eight years of age) went from Galmpton to Churston. This marked the beginning of the admissions system that we have today. We are proud of our history and our tradition. We hold an annual Founder's Day to remember our links with the past. Listed below are some of the school's key information and statutory documents.
