Shebbear College is a co-educational Day and Boarding school that takes pupils all the way from Kindergarten up to Sixth form.

It is a truly unique school situated within the safe and idyllic grounds of the North Devon countryside.

Less than 39 miles from Exeter, 16 miles from Okehampton and only 13 miles from Bideford, Shebbear College really is closer than you think. To see exactly where we are click here.

Our aim is to educate each pupil to achieve his or her potential by encouraging the highest possible standards of attainment and behaviour. We achieve this through a balanced, flexible and challenging curriculum. We provide a supportive and nurturing environment to help develop each pupil's sense of self-worth, enthusiasm for learning and optimism for the future.

We emphasises Christian values and foster responsibility, tolerance, commitment and respect for both the individual and for society.

Our Community

The sense of community at Shebbear College is what really sets us a part from other schools. This sense of community is perhaps best encompassed in some more words from the Headmaster...

"Imagine a College that promotes life-long learning. Imagine a College in which all its members share in and contribute to its aspirations and hopes. Imagine a College in which all are valued for who they are and taught for what they might become. Imagine a College that celebrates the success, not only for the individual, but also of the group or team. Imagine a College that builds upon the past, learns from the present, and prepares for the future. The best way to imagine the reality of our school, Shebbear College, is to experience it. I hope you will visit us and I will be delighted to welcome you." Bob Barnes 2003

Overall Shebbear's sense of community is quite unique amongst the "education factories" that many of our schools have become. It's why we like prospective parents to visit us, to get a feel for themselves.

As well as our sense of community the quality and variety of our sporting facilities are excellent and every pupil is encouraged to participate in a wide range of physical activities. Our extensive grounds and ideal location ensure that there is a wealth of opportunity to take part in not only the traditional sports of rugby, netball, football, cricket, rounders and tennis but also in pursuits such as horse riding karate, trampolining, aerobics, sailing, climbing, and canoeing, to name but a few.

Our Facilities

Our Facilities

With the college being founded in 1841 the schools grounds are steeped in history. Shebbear College now sits in 85 acres of the North Devon countryside and boasts rugby pitches, sports halls together with the original buildings amongst its grounds.

The historical buildings are complimented with sympathetically designed modern ones that help ensure the College stays comfortable and abreast of technology, whilst maintaining its links with the past.

Shebbear College has a continuous programme of investment in its facilities. This ensures its pupils leave with an understanding of the past, the experience of the present, and an eye for the future.

"Eureka" -Innovation in approach...

Innovation in approach...

Shebbear College is proud of its excellent academic record which reflects our success in developing the individual gifts and abilities of every pupil. We expect a great deal from our pupils who are offered a full and academically motivating education. Being an independent school we have the freedom to be flexible, adapting the curriculum to our own needs.

Not being tied by constraints of the National Curriculum , our curriculum is constantly under review and development. We are here to educate – a great undertaking – and this means much more than just good examination results.

Innovation can be seen clearly in our Sixth form, which normally offers A and AS level courses, but provides the opportunity to take specialist subjects by video-conferencing.
