 Dear Parents/Carers,

Thank you for your interest in Southbrook College . We hope that the attached information will initially answer many of the questions, which you may have about us.
Obviously, however, the best way to find out about us is to come in to the college, look around and have a chat. Appointments to visit can be made through Mrs Hunt, the College Secretary, and you will be advised of our general induction times for both parents and children. I hope, by then, we will have visited your child in his/her present school.
We are very much a team at Southbrook and value the relationship and support that we have with our parents/carers enormously. We try hard to foster a pleasant, caring and relaxed atmosphere whilst maintaining high standards of achievement, appearance and personal responsibility. Consequently, we aim to enable our students to reach their full potential in every aspect of their life.
We appreciate that moving from one school to another may be difficult for everyone involved and we aim for this to be as smooth as possible through the careful preparation and close contact that we will have with you.
Consequently, we believe that this is the beginning of a long and very positive relationship among staff, parents and students. We look forward to providing the best for your child so that he/she can achieve his/her maximum potential academically, personally and socially.

The Curriculum

At Southbrook we provide Programmes of Study throughout the school, which are differentiated and meet the needs of individuals. Each Key Stage is linked and there is a variety of teaching and learning styles. The National Curriculum is followed and adapted as necessary in order for pupils to achieve their full academic potential. We endeavour to provide specialist teaching in all Key Stages. At Key Stage 4 all students are working towards externally accredited courses.

Compulsory subjects include English, Mathematics, Science, ICT, Religious Education and Personal, Social and Health Education.

Other subjects include History, Geography, Art, French, Design Technology, Music and Physical Education.

Personal, Social and Health Education features strongly across the curriculum and throughout all subjects. PSHE is central to the academic and social development of our pupils.

Homework will be set on a regular basis and is written in the home/school planner.

14 – 16 Curriculum

Students in Key Stage 4 have the opportunity to access 14-16 vocational curriculum. This is delivered through partnerships with other secondary schools and local further education colleges. Students access practically based courses e.g. catering, motor vehicle maintenance, bricklaying, joinery and painting and decorating.
