| Welcome to St Nicholas C of E Junior School
Thank you for your interest in our school. We extend a warm welcome to children and families of children who wish to find out more about us. This website is intended to give information about the life of our school and the achievements of our pupils.
The town of Sidmouth and the school
Sidmouth is a Regency seaside town on East Devon's Jurassic Coast . It is about eleven miles from the city of Exeter . Sidmouth's bay is surrounded by red sandstone cliffs, and there are stretches of sandy beach with rock pools. The town is known internationally for its Folk Week which happens each year in August. The local environment provides a rich resource for the school and parts of the curriculum are designed around it.
The original part of our school, as seen from the road, dates from 1900. It was the site of the old secondary school. However, an exciting new development in 2004 has brought the school completely up-to-date. We are very proud of the impressive learning environment we now offer our pupils. Our local community has helped to raise £100,000 towards the £1.6 million cost of the new building.
The accommodation houses twelve classrooms, shared practical areas, a library, an ICT suite, a music/drama room, a hall and kitchen and staff and office facilities. All classrooms have interactive whiteboards. There is a playground at the front of the school and soft play area to the rear.
St Nicholas School is a Voluntary Aided Church School and enjoys a good relationship with local churches in the community. Pupils are offered excellent opportunities to learn and develop, clearly set within a Christian context.
Mission Statement
St Nicholas School's mission is to enable children to grow creatively and to enjoy achieving excellence within a Christian learning environment.

| Our prospectus and school profile give some information about us, but if you would like to know more before making a decision about your child's school placement, please contact the school to speak to the headteacher and to make an appointment to visit.
We hope that you also enjoy looking at the children's pages to give an idea about some of the lessons and activities which have taken place.

| PTA Bingo Evening - December 2006
St Nicholas School PTA consists of 12 regular committee members who are the enthusiastic backbone of organising and running fundraising and social events for the children and parents of the school.
St Nicholas School PTA is currently undertaking a programme to enhance the school playground areas. As the new school buildings are complete and in use, we felt it was important for the playground to be brought up to the same high standards and create a positive, cheerful and imaginative area for the children to play.
We have had a lot of support from the children and parents, especially one, a very talented artist, Coco Hodgkinson, whose paintings have transformed the playground into a jungle area, a stable area and Sidmouth Pier complete with a puppet show and a box office.
We have provided an archway into the Tudor Garden, a wooden walkway in the Jungle area, two ‘recycled carrier bag’ seats and six shop murals.
To fund the playground enhancement we have held a Christmas Fair, an Easter Fair with a jumble sale, a quiz night at a local pub and a ‘who can fill the sweet jar the quickest with copper coins’ collecting competition. All these events were very well supported by the staff, children and parents of the school. Future events include a Beetle Drive and the Summer Fair. We have had generous donations from local businesses and the local radio station too.
Alongside fundraising events, we provided help with the St Nicholas Day preparations, the Book Fair, a Parent-Craft taster session, Year 6 SATs study sessions, Year 6 end of SATs disco and daffodil planting.
The PTA meets once every half term in the School Library and welcomes everyone who would like to help make a difference to the pupils at St Nicholas School.

| The following clubs will run from Monday 1st October, until the end of this term, or until further notice - the teacher leading the club will let you know. Please fill in the slip if you want your child to attend. If your child is in Year 4, 5 or 6 and wishes to continue in a club they attended last term (provided it is still running), please still complete the slip, so that we are certain of their intentions.
After school clubs normally run from 3:30pm to 4:15pm. Any special conditions to particular clubs will be explained to the children.
Children will be told where to attend and a list of members for each club will go on the notice board next week. If their name is on the list, they have a place. Please get them to check.
Meetings may affect some dates. Children will be informed, where possible, the week before any cancellation.
Children who have attended School Choir and Orchestra before, please note that these clubs have changed days.

This is always the busiest time of the year for the choir, with the Carol Service, singing for the Lions’ Club and at retirement homes, coming up. It would therefore be good to see strong support for this. To avoid clashes, no other clubs have been arranged for Wednesday after school.
Language Clubs
A letter was sent out last week regarding these clubs. Please see Mr. Kitchen if your child is interested but you did not receive a copy. |
