Ffynone House School Trust is an Independent, Co-educational School situated on two sites in a leafy suburb of Swansea West, not far from the centre of the city.

It offers a strong start in life for children from 3 to 18. The Oakleigh campus provides education from Nursery to 9+, while the Ffynone campus takes children through Middle School to GCSE and A-Level.

The Trust School provides a caring and challenging environment for children of all abilities and talents, priding itself on the range of successes enjoyed by its pupils, from Oxbridge Entrance to National Sporting Achievements, from prizes in Literature and Science, to awards in the Arts and Public Speaking.

The discipline is firm, the environment secure and classes small. Pupils are provided with challenging opportunities in a range of activities.

Expectations are high and academic achievement is placed alongside personal development. This allows each child to make the most of his or her own, special potential, by balancing the best of traditional methods with modern teaching facilities, in order to prepare pupils for the fast changing world of the 21st century.

Past pupils value their old school highly and the start it gave them in life, often on the way to considerable and high profile success in their chosen field.

Junior School

Oakleigh House offers all pupils, from 3 -9 years, the highest standard of teaching and educational facilities.

There is a multi-purpose hall, modern dining facilities, a computer suite and a range of specialist classrooms.

There is a large playground, a lawn and a wooded area which has been developed into a nature reserve by staff and pupils, providing a valuable on-site resource.

There is a distinctive family atmosphere with emphasis placed on caring and sharing.

Positive attitudes to learning are encouraged and a thorough grounding in all academic areas established.

There is particular emphasis placed on reading which is considered the cornerstone of each child’s academic development.

In Years 1 & 2 the Form Teacher balances Literacy and Numeracy with activities such as Music, Drama, Art and Sport.

In Years 3 & 4 the curriculum includes a wider range of subjects, some of which are taught by specialist teachers.

Work in all areas is enhanced by visits to festivals, museums, environmental centres and other places of interest.

There is a close school/home partnership. Pupils are regularly assessed and written reports sent to parents who are invited to Parents’ Evenings to ensure a dialogue with staff.

Discipline is firm and a House Point System is in place to encourage good work and behaviour.

Sport and physical activities play a central role in the life of the school. Team games include football, netball, hockey, cricket, rounders, short tennis and swimming for both boys and girls.

In addition to class Music and Drama, optional extra lessons are offered in Music in a range of instruments; Speech and Drama and Ballet. Examination results in these subjects are consistently outstanding.

All pupils take part in school productions and there is a Junior choir of note.

There is a range of extra-curricular subjects on offer, including Sport, Choir, Ballet, ICT, Chess, Cookery and Le Club Francais.

Entry to the Middle School at Ffynone is usual, though not automatic. Oakleigh House pupils will take precedence over external candidates provided they are of the required academic standard.
