Hello, my name is Tracy Ruddle and I am the Headteacher of this wonderful school.

Miss T Ruddle

There are so many good things I want to tell you about Corngreaves Primary. Through our website, we want to give you the full ‘flavour’ of all that we can offer the children who come here.

We take on children aged from 4 up to 11 years and in that time we make sure that they have lots of exciting learning opportunities to achieve their potential.

Our curriculum and the work we carry out with the children from an early age reflects that pupils leave us as confident individuals, successful learners and responsible citizens in the local community.

I hope you enjoy the website and find it both informative and useful. If you would like to visit us, please ring the school for an appointment and we would love to see you.

We look forward to meeting you...

Overview of Our Curriculum

The curriculum is all the subjects we teach our children. Our Curriculum aims to help our learners:

  • To learn and achieve their potential in Literacy and Numeracy and to achieve excellent SAT results.
  • To have a broad range of curriculum skills which they use to help them gain a wider understanding of the world.
  • To be inspired, challenged and prepared for the future.
  • To realize with hard work they can achieve anything they want.
  • To have enquiring minds and think better for themselves.
  • To be creative, resourceful and able to solve problems.
  • To understand better how they learn and to learn from their mistakes.
  • Develop a sense of self worth and belief in themselves.
  • Become increasingly independent, take initiative and organize themselves well.
  • Work co-operatively with others and in teams.
  • Respect others and act with integrity.
  • Feel they can change things for the better.
Our working day is broken into 4 one hour blocks and a half an hour slot. We tend to teach English and Maths in the morning and all the other subjects in the afternoon.

Children under 5 years old go into our our Pre-school and Reception classes.
The Reception year group, follow a different curriculum to the rest of the school known as the Foundation Curriculum.
The rest of the school, that is, year groups 1 to 6 follow the national curriculum.

English, Maths and Science are the 3 ‘core’ subjects and there are 8 ‘foundation’ subjects. We are also in the process of introducing modern foreign languages into our Curriculum.

For more in-depth information about our curriculum please follow the links in this section....

About the School

The Parents are a child’s first teacher and we take their role very seriously here at Corngreaves Primary.
“Parents speak very highly of the school. As one parent reported, ‘The school is helping my son realise that education is fun and rewarding. He always has so many positive things to say about his day; he is more organised, happy and eager to go to school."
We welcome visits into school and parents are invited into school frequently to watch children learning and to consider ways of supporting them at home.
Regular newsletters are sent out and copies of theses can be found by clicking on the news links from this page.  We also have parent noticeboards around the school.
We encourage adult education and run Parent Support classes.  We have a newly appointed Parent-link Worker called Mrs Guest, who liaises with parents and manages parents in school.
We support parents who wish to undertake NVQ work here at school and it is not unusual for us to employ parents following training.
