Shireland Collegiate AcademyWelcome to our new website, which is the product of a partnership between our students, our staff and members of our local community. Our Academy relies upon partnerships, particularly the one between students and staff.

"To develop in students their unique abilities and talents to the best interests of themselves and the society in which they live, and to which they will contribute."

The Academy has developed aims which seek to promote excellence in all areas of student activity. In particular we seek to support students so that they develop confidence in themselves and in each other; tolerance and respect for themselves and others irrespective of background, religion, race and gender; self-discipline and social awareness; lively and enquiring minds and the ability to argue rationally and make judgements; understanding of spiritual and moral concepts.

These aims and objectives form the basis of all that we do.

Shireland Collegiate Academy and Sixth Form Centre

is an 11-19 Trust School categorised as 'Outstanding' by OfSTED in September 2006: 'The Headteacher and his team have an increasing and deservedly high reputation for school improvement at a national level . . . and have outstanding and increasing ability to improve further.' (OfSTED) The Academy's highly successful Strategic Partnership with a local secondary school has enabled the expansion of opportunities for both staff and students. Levels of achievement have risen consistently for the last seven years and the Academy has the highest of value added ratings.

Level of achievement have risen dramatically during the last few years, as we have developed far more focussed ways of supporting our students. This involves more student interaction, more connections among schools, more collaboration among teachers and students and the involvement of teachers as facilitators. There is more emphasis on technology as a tool for learning in raising achievement across our community.

Our involvement in one of the three national DfED Test Bed initiatives has enabled us to put PCs into the homes of all students who attend Shireland.

Through this we will involve families and the community we serve in an integrated approach to learning through development of online resources across the curriculum.

  • online homework activities
  • increased communication with families and community groups
  • integration of services available to families

At Shireland we emphasise an international, technological and vocational culture. We use ICT to enhance learning, make contact with other students worldwide and overcome barriers to cultural understanding.

Our aim is to get the best out of everyone.
